Matchbox Paintings

I will be selling these miniature paintings to raise $1500.00 for my Trip with Two Wheel View through South America in March of 2006. The money raised will be used to support a youth on a similar ride through Spain this summer. These Matchbox paintings represent my incredible journey while experiencing Bolivian culture. Now I wish to share them with you.

These paintings are acrylic on wooden match boxes. They were painted with burnt matchsticks. Most of the subjects were from my everyday experiences of Bolivian culture. They were painted during my Peace Corps service from 2001 -2003. The idea of using matchboxes and the used matchsticks was good in that I was able to express myself through painting while reusing something that is generally thrown away. I also liked the idea that these paintings can fit in your pocket.

These matchbox paintings first began as something to fill my free time and later became more of a way to reflect on my everyday experiences. I will be showing some of them on Dec 21, 2005 and plan to show them again during Peace Corps week in mid February at a local gallery. I appreciate any support in achieving this goal.

I am asking $100 for an original painting and $10 for color copies. I promise to include a bio on each painting. Some of these paintings will include the frame. These are one of a kind and will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. If the original is not available I will gladly send you a copy.

There are 3 blocks of these painting marked A-C. They are numbered starting from top left corner down, from left to right . Please email me the Block A-C and #. (ex. C5).

Two Wheel View fundraiser

December 16, 2005

Greetings!!

When I arrived in Minneapolis MN at this time last year, I began working with a group called Two Wheeled View who are dedicated to getting kids on mountain bikes who might not otherwise have those opportunities. I have been fixing their house bikes and going on rides with these youth this past year. A good part of these bike rides involve bringing awareness to these young riders of our natural environments and then sharing that with others. I have now been invited go on their first annual fundraising benefit trip to Argentina next spring and at the same time, help sponsor a young person to take on a similar challenge – an international bike adventure!

Two Wheel View (a.k.a. Trips for Kids – Twin Cities) has organized international bike adventures for young people for the past four years and is hosting its first annual fundraising benefit trip to Argentina next spring. This is the bike trip that I will be taking with 8 others who are helping raise these funds. Here is a link to more details about the trip through areas just south of where I volunteered in Bolivia:
http://www.twowheelview.org/Argentina%20Bike%20Tour.htm

Two Wheel View is a nonprofit organization that opens young minds to the social, cultural, and environmental landscapes of our world through bicycle adventures. More information about Two Wheel View is online at www.twowheelview.org.

Again I ask for your support to get more kids involved with the Two Wheel View biking program. I have pledged to raise at least $1,500 through donations or whatever means. The money that I raise will go directly to sponsor a young person for a bike trip to Spain next summer.

Pedro Rivera, from Albuquerque, who went on a Two Wheel View international bike trip in 2003 when he was 17 years old says, “The overall experience of the trip was great. I saw something that I had never seen before, did things that most people will never do, and did it with some great people. If I can do that, I can do anything.”

Please help me by making a donation to Two Wheel View - to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a young person and to help me reach my fundraising goal of $1,500. My personal deadline to raise the money is [a not so far distant date, e.g. January 20, 2006]. When you donate, you will be sponsoring a young person that would not otherwise have such an incredible opportunity.

Donations can be sent directly to Two Wheel View or to me. Please make checks payable to Two Wheel View and mention that the donation is on behalf Kekoa Rosa . All contributions are 100% tax deductible and Two Wheel View will send you a receipt for your donation. To make a donation by credit card, please contact Two Wheel View toll free at 1-(866) 858-2453 or by email at info@twowheelview.org.
